Do I need a wedding album?
As we come towards the end of another year of amazing weddings, I thought I'd write a little about what you do with those beautiful photos that you paid me to take of your big day. Now I don't like to brag, but I think I take pretty nice photos and you must too otherwise you wouldn't have booked me to capture one of the most important days of your life. But what breaks my heart is the thought of those images languishing on a USB in a dusty drawer of your desk never to see the light of day. But I'm also aware that weddings are expensive things and the thought of adding on additional expense of an album or canvasses or prints can just seem a step too far.
But as we come to the christmas period and one year anniversary's (which are of course paper!) it can be a great time to ask for a gift of a wedding album or beautiful frame or canvass of your favourite images.
I am biased I know, but for me photographs should be experienced not just seen. Picking up a beautiful book, opening it's thick, luxurious pages, following the story of a day as it unfolds in front of you, imagining your grandchildren going through those pages and seeing them in the same quality as the day the book was bound.
I can also guarantee that an album will mean that you look at your weddings far more often and also that you will most likely only look at those 100 photos that you have selected rather than the 500 that are on your usb.
But I think that the biggest thing for me is finding something that can be handed down through generations. Do you remember being shown those old sepia photos of your grandparents getting married - taking them out of the box, feeling them in your hands and being told about the experience while looking at the picture.
I purchase my products from 2 wonderful British companies - Loxley colour and Folio Albums. Loxley produce stunning prints, canvasses and frames. The photos are produced on archival quality paper which means that it will last for generations. The latest laser ink technology is used to ensure that the colours, saturation, tone and grain are perfect. The pages are thick and luxurious, the book feels heavy and solid in your hands and comes in both a linen or leather cover. I recommend having 80-100 photos from your day in a book - this prevents the book looking too cluttered but allows enough photos to tell the story of your day fully.
Prints are a cheaper way to get your photos out and about. Every 6 months I get photos printed and going up my staircase I have about 40 mismatched, distressed, vintage frames full of photos of my family. Each photo tells a story and it is an easy way make a feature of a wall. I buy the frames off ebay and pay more for my professional quality prints so that they look as beautiful as they should. When I swap them out I put them in a
beautiful keepsake box and every now and again will get the box out and look through the pictures.
Frames and canvasses are a great way to decorate your house and get your photos off the computer. There is a huge range of frames that are available from Loxley colour so you can have a look through the website, let me know your favourites and I can come back to you with a price. Canvasses are a timeless and elegant way to display your photos.
